Lerumo Lions FC head coach Tshepo Maphari has drawn a bold comparison between the club’s new Brazilian signing, Victor Santoro, and Mamelodi Sundowns star midfielder Marcelo Allende.
Santoro forms part of the 11 new signings made by the North West-based outfit for the 2026/27 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
The other new recruits at the club include Donald Bougo, Bongani Nkone, Odwa Nyulu, Mnelisi Mbhele, Mfanelo Khumalo, Nkosi Simelane, Tumisang Mashele, Sizwe Sithole, Aya Sibuta, and Dimakatso Mashao.
The Sibongile Marokana-owned side enjoyed a decent maiden campaign in the National First Division [NFD] last term, finishing seventh on the log with 42 points from 30 matches after purchasing the status of Pretoria Callies—having previously competed in the SAFA North West ABC Motsepe League.

Speaking exclusively to FARPost, Maphari detailed the tactical qualities of the 20-year-old South American playmaker, while highlighting that he’s an ideal replacement for Siphesihle Tati, who has since signed for the Betway Premiership side TS Galaxy.
“Well, Victor, he’s a proper number 10. But you know, with international players, they don’t necessarily have your diski flair, like dribbling,” Maphari told FARPost.
“However, he’s more like Marcelo Allende. He plays more like him. He’s your typical South American—very creative, getting into spaces, and has simple foot technique with both feet.
“The boy is only 20 years old, and he’s still going to grow and become a better player in the future. He’s definitely an ideal replacement for Siphesihle Tati, who has moved to TS Galaxy.”
Lerumo Lions’ latest wave of acquisitions sends a clear signal of intent: the club is gearing up for a serious title charge and automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership.
Lerumo Lions will kick off their campaign against Venda FC this afternoon at 15:00 at Thohoyandou Stadium.
