Leicesterford City FC have secured a new home ground for their Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign, moving their home fixtures to Lebowakgomo’s Mafori Stadium following Baroka FC’s relegation to the amateur ranks.
Entering their second season in the National First Division—having purchased the status of JDR Stars—Leicesterford previously hosted matches at Atteridgeville’s Lucas Moripe Stadium.
After surviving relegation by six points under Stanford Nkoane last term, Nkoane’s side will kick off their new era in Limpopo on Saturday, 22 August, against newly relegated Orbit College FC. The PSL fixture list confirms Mafori Stadium will host eight of their 15 home games.
The move to play the majority of their home matches in Limpopo doesn’t come as a surprise. The club is owned by Limpopo-born businessman Lister Makatoane, who hails from the Jane Furse area in Sekhukhune.

There were talks that the club would play their home matches in Limpopo during their first season in the National First Division. But due to the unavailability of facilities, they were forced to seek a home venue outside the province.
Efforts to get a comment from Leicesterford CEO Bongani Khuluse on the club’s plans moving forward were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages went unanswered.
THE 2026/27 MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON GETS UNDERWAY
Following the two opening matches of the season on Friday, more matches are set to take place on Saturday, 22 August. Real Native FC registered the first victory of the season after defeating Cape Town City FC 2-1 while Venda FC played to a 1-1 draw against Lerumo Lions FC.
Saturday’s action kicks off with newcomers Hope FC hosting University of Pretoria, while Hungry Lions welcome Gomora United. Elsewhere, Midlands Wanderers square off against Magesi FC, North West University take on Upington City FC, and The Bees clash with Highbury FC.
