Veteran goalkeeper Dumisani Msibi has bid farewell to his Chippa United teammates ahead of a move to Golden Arrows, FARPost has established. The 31-year-old goalie said his goodbyes on Monday, with Abafana Bes’thende moving swiftly to secure his services.
His departure follows the return of Nigerian international Stanley Nwabali to the Chippa fold. The club had initially decided to release Nwabali towards the end of the 2025/26 season but welcomed him back during pre-season.
Msibi was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise difficult campaign for the Gqeberha side. He was also entrusted with the captain’s armband on several occasions, providing Chippa with a steady presence at the back.
He made 18 appearances in the Betway Premiership, keeping eight clean sheets. Msibi had joined Chippa after an outstanding season with Durban City, where he played a key role in their promotion to the top flight.
The former national Under-20 shot-stopper made more than 20 league appearances as the KwaZulu-Natal side won the Motsepe Foundation Championship. He was later named the division’s Goalkeeper of the Season for 2024/25.
GOLDEN ARROWS GETTING A LEADER IN MSIBI
Msibi was still completing his matric when then-Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba handed him a surprise call-up for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers against Sudan and Nigeria.
Only 19 at the time and on SuperSport United’s books, he was part of a goalkeeping department that also included Itumeleng Khune and the late Senzo Meyiwa.
The former youth international later made his Bafana debut against Ivory Coast. Arrows are now getting a goalkeeper with top-flight experience and a strong voice at the back, qualities that should provide much-needed leadership to their squad.
He will compete with Thakasani Mbanjwa and Namibian international Edward Maova for the number one jersey at Arrows.
His form at Chippa had also attracted interest from Orlando Pirates, who considered him a potential replacement for the departing Melusi Buthelezi before cooling their pursuit.
