Former Sekhukhune United winger Elias Mokwana is set to leave Tunisian giants Esperance as the two parties work towards terminating his contract by mutual consent. FARPost understands the process is expected to be concluded this week, bringing Mokwana’s two-year stay with the Tunisian champions to an end.
The 26-year-old has attracted interest from clubs in Libya and Saudi Arabia, with his representatives assessing the available options ahead of his next move. Esperance have been open to offers for Bafana Bafana winger for some time. The club initially wanted to cash in on the former Platinum City Rovers attacker rather than sanction another loan move.
However, with no suitable permanent offer forthcoming, the parties are now finalising an agreement that will allow him to leave as a free agent.
MOKWANA EAGER FOR FRESH START
Mokwana is also understood to be eager for a fresh start after spending the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Saudi outfit Al-Hazm. He featured 26 times across all competitions, contributing one goal and three assists.
His run earned him a place in the Bafana squad that participated in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. He, however, missed out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, the USA and Canada.
The winger joined Esperance from Sekhukhune in 2024 and enjoyed a successful first season in Tunisia. He made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing four assists as the Red and Gold completed a league and cup double.
He is entering the final year of a contract that runs until June 2027. Esperance had hoped to secure a transfer fee before reaching the stage where they risked losing him for nothing.
With the mutual termination now close to completion, Mokwana could soon be free to decide his next destination. Libya and Saudi Arabia have emerged as his most likely options, although further interest could develop once his departure from Esperance is confirmed.
