Sekhukhune United interim coach Papi Zothwane has cleared the air on why versatile star Bright Ndlovu missed Saturday’s clash against TS Galaxy, amidst growing speculation linking him with a high-profile move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Ndlovu was a notable absentee from the matchday squad as Babina Noko played out a goalless draw against the Rockets in the Betway Premiership at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The 26-year-old utility player, who seamlessly operates as both a centre-back and a striker, has established himself as a vital cog in the Sekhukhune setup. He has already made his mark this season, netting one goal in four league appearances.
Ndlovu’s rise has been impressive after joining Sekhukhune United following a stellar campaign with Kruger United, where he played a pivotal role in helping the side gain promotion from the SAFA ABC Motsepe League during the national playoffs in Upington in 2024.
Since making the step up to the top flight, he has barely looked back, proving his quality and becoming a regular starter.
BRIGHT NDLOVU LINKED WITH MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
Recent reports have suggested that the defender-turned-attacker has caught the eye of former Betway Premiership champions Sundowns, who are reportedly keen on adding his versatility to their defensive ranks.
Ndlovu’s sudden exclusion from the squad on Saturday instantly sent the rumour mill into overdrive, with fans speculating that a marquee move to Chloorkop could be on the cards before the transfer window shuts.

However, speaking after the final whistle, Zothwane swiftly poured cold water on suggestions that Ndlovu’s absence was transfer-related, revealing that illness was the sole reason behind the player’s omission.
“Ndlovu has got the flu, that’s why he’s not part of the team,” Zothwane told reporters.
When pressed further on whether the club is bracing itself for an official bid from Sundowns, the Babina Noko mentor remained tight-lipped about the player’s long-term future, choosing to focus strictly on his current contract status.
“I can’t comment on that [his future] because he’s contracted to the team. As for whether he will be with us for the rest of the season, that’s what I know. Unless you know something that I don’t know,” Zothwane added.
The weekend draw leaves Sekhukhune sitting sixth on the Premiership table, having secured two victories from their opening five fixtures. Babina Noko will look to welcome Ndlovu back to full fitness ahead of their next league assignment against Stellenbosch FC on 11 September.
