Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons has pinpointed the exact turning point where Amakhosi lost momentum in the Betway Premiership last season, issuing a clear warning to his teammate not to repeat the same mistake.
The Soweto giants kicked off their previous campaign on a strong note, remaining unbeaten across their opening five league fixtures.
In the current season, the Glamour Boys started the term in a similar fashion. As things stand, Fernando da Cruz’s side currently sit third on the Betway Premiership table with 11 points—eight behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played two more games than Chiefs.
However, their promising good start last season was derailed immediately following the FIFA international break—a setback Solomons is determined to prevent this time around.
DILLAN SOLOMONS ON MAINTAINING POST-BREAK CONSISTENCY
Speaking to the Chiefs media department, the right-back drew direct parallels between their current early-season momentum and last year’s start.
“Well, I think last season, we were in a similar position. In the first five games, we were really good and unbeaten. But after the break [FIFA break], that’s when things went a little bit sideways for us,” Solomons stated.
With Chiefs finding positive early rhythm once again, Solomons emphasised that managing the upcoming break effectively will be the deciding factor in whether they can sustain their push at the top of the table.
“However, for me, this good start is really positive for us, but it’s important for us to come back from the long break we are going to have and try to maintain that consistency and keep winning games,” he explained.
For Solomons, addressing those small details during this coming international break will dictate whether Amakhosi can avoid repeating past errors and turn a solid start into a successful campaign.
“So, the only thing I’m looking forward to is seeing how we come back from the break because that’s where we lost our way last season. It’s those types of little things we need to fix and focus on this season that would put us in a good position moving forward,” he added.
Chiefs will now focus on their Betway Premiership tie against Polokwane City FC on Saturday, 12 September, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The kick-off is set for 15:00.
