Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s agent, Gibson Mahachi, has explained what has kept the red-hot striker grounded and ruthless in front of goal as he emerges as the most wanted man in the PSL.
The AmaZulu FC star, Ngwenya, has been ruthless in front of goal since the start of the new campaign, form that has turned him into one of the most desirable strikers in the Betway Premiership.
On Saturday against Marumo Gallants, he netted his seventh goal in six Betway Premiership matches, taking his tally to nine across all competitions after two strikes in the MTN8.
That goal return has left him top of the Golden Boot race and impossible to ignore, with clubs queuing to knock on his door.
The 23-year-old was rewarded for his fine run with the Betway Premiership Player of the Month award for August, announced last Tuesday.
Now another reward has followed: a deserved call-up to Zimbabwe’s squad for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo later this month.

According to Mahachi, Ngwenya’s tough mentality was forged by his humble background and his time under Norman Mapeza, arguably the most demanding coach in Zimbabwean football right now.
Ngwenya endured shocking criticism from Arthur Zwane, who branded him a ‘lazy thinker’ despite being AmaZulu’s mainstay this season. However, that did not slow him down.
“Thando was toughened up under Norman Mapeza. Mapeza is one of the best coaches in Zimbabwe, and he was very tough on him. It was tough love, but it made him ruthless and straightforward. He doesn’t complain; he just works,” Mahachi told FARPost.
“Thando is also motivated by where he comes from. He knows his background and what he has been through to get here. Every goal for him is not just for himself; it’s for his family and for everyone who believed in him when things were difficult. That keeps him grounded.”
On the growing interest around the striker, Mahachi says they are in no rush.
Mahachi added: “Yes, many clubs are knocking on the door and asking about him, which is normal when a player is doing well.
“But we are not rushing him. We want him to keep his feet on the ground, push even harder and achieve more. The most important thing now is to keep scoring and helping AmaZulu. We will decide his future when the time is right.”
