Kaizer Chiefs have been hit with a major double injury blow ahead of Sunday’s Betway Premiership clash against Golden Arrows, losing both Brandon Petersen and Wandile Duba just before the upcoming FIFA international break.
The Glamour Boys are set to lock horns with Arrows on Sunday, 20 September, at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga. The match is scheduled for 15:00.
In a statement released on Wednesday night, Amakhosi confirmed that their captain Petersen and forward Wandile Duba have both been ruled out due to injuries sustained in training.
Petersen, who has recently come under fire for costly errors in goal for Chiefs, suffered a medial collateral ligament [MCL] injury to his left knee during Tuesday morning’s training session at the Naturena Village.
The experienced shot-stopper is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks while he undergoes rehabilitation.
WANDILE DUBA NURSING A HIP AND GROIN INJURY
Meanwhile, Duba has picked up a hip and groin injury, ruling him out for approximately two weeks, according to the club’s press release.
The 22-year-old frontman has already netted three goals in five appearances across all competitions for Chiefs this season.
The Soweto giants extended their best wishes to both Petersen and Duba for a speedy recovery as they prepare for this weekend’s clash without the key duo.

“The team has been dealt a double injury setback. Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen sustained a knee injury during training on Tuesday morning and will be sidelined for an estimated four to six weeks. The experienced shot-stopper, who has featured in every match since the season kicked off in August, injured the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and will now undergo rehabilitation,” reads the club’s statement.
“Adding to the concerns, attacker Wandile Duba has been ruled out for approximately two weeks after picking up a hip and groin injury. Duba, who has already netted three goals this season, has a minor defect in the affected area, and the medical team will monitor his progress closely over the coming week before determining the next course of action.
“Both players have played key roles in Kaizer Chiefs’ strong start to the campaign, and their absence will be felt. We look forward to welcoming them back to action soon.”
