Unattached former Marumo Gallants head coach Phuti Mohafe is laying the groundwork for his next move, refusing to rule out a quick return to the dugout after his sudden departure from the Betway Premiership side.
Mohafe was recently shown the door by Gallants management after taking charge of just five matches during a challenging start to the campaign. His brief stint in the North West yielded two draws and three defeats, prompting the club to appoint former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo as his successor.
However, the former Polokwane City FC tactician is not letting the setback slow his ambitions.
Speaking to FARPost, Mohafe confirmed that he is already in active discussions regarding potential coaching opportunities, as several top-flight and lower-tier clubs evaluate their technical setups.

“I am still idling at home and making some contacts here and there. I don’t know how long I will stay at home without a job,” Mohafe told FARPost as he actively pursues his next project.
Rather than dwelling on his premature exit from Gallants, the coach remains focused on refining his credentials to ensure he is fully equipped for his next role. He confirmed to this publication that he has completed his CAF C Licence and is currently pursuing his UEFA Pro Licence to boost his coaching profile.
Reflecting on his decision to leave Polokwane City for the Gallants project, Mohafe maintained that calculated risks are necessary for career progression, even when outcomes do not align with expectations.
“I don’t regret leaving Polokwane City. I took a risk, and the risk that I took didn’t materialise into my perspective,” Mohafe explained.
“Obviously, I had hoped for a longer stay, but it didn’t happen. When you check the standard of the team, you look at Marumo now, and you look at the club last season, there is a huge difference. So I think it was too soon to pull the plug, but they were looking for instant results.”
With his coaching badges being upgraded and lines of communication open with potential employers, Mohafe remains eager to step straight back into a new project as soon as the right opportunity arises.
