Former Ivory Coast goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare says “it is the right time” for his compatriot Junior Dion to leave Golden Arrows for a bigger club, preferably outside the Betway Premiership.
Dion has built a name for himself in the PSL after finishing the 2025/26 season as the Betway top goal-scorer with 14 goals. The 27-year-old is having a decent outing this term, so far managing four goals in nine matches across all competitions.
Also cementing the Ivorian-Chadian striker’s reputation in South African football is his status as a certified ‘Sundowns specialist’, having bagged five goals in his last five outings against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Dion arrived in South Africa in August 2021 from Botswana Premier League side Jwaneng Galaxy, signing for Marumo Gallants. He has also turned out for AmaZulu FC and is in his second season with Arrows.

Before the start of the current season, Dion pushed for a move away from Arrows. The striker reported for pre-season training late amid links with Emirati side Al Wasl FC. Former Sekhukhune United goalkeeper and 2023 AFCON winner Sangare explains why he feels it is necessary for his compatriot to move.
“I think it is the right time for him to go to a big team because he has now adapted to South African football. He knows the league, so I think now is the right time to go to a big team,” Sangare told FARPost.
“He has been in South Africa, I think, for five years. He knows South African football now; I think it’s the right time, and he’s ready for the big teams.
“When I have a chance to talk to him, I think I’ll advise him to go outside South Africa. You know this thing is about money. If you get better money somewhere, you must go because in football you never know. You don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow. Maybe you can get injuries.
“So, when you get better offers somewhere, you can go because all things in football are for money to serve your family.”
