TS Galaxy are looking to appoint a new head coach after the FIFA international break, with Bernard Parker set to move into an assistant coaching role.
The Rockets have lost their last two Betway Premiership matches 1-0, against newly promoted Kruger United and Chippa United. Sunday’s defeat to the Chilli Boys at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium left Galaxy 12th on the table with one win, three draws and three defeats from seven games.
Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi told Ikwekwezi FM that Parker needs time to further his coaching education. The Mpumalanga club is looking for an experienced and highly qualified coach.
Sukazi singled out the second half against Kruger United, describing it as the worst football he had seen Galaxy play. He said the team struggled to find solutions and acknowledged the frustration he heard from supporters in the stands.
GALAXY’S CHANGE OF DIRECTION EXPLAINED
The Rockets boss believes Parker, who holds a CAF C License, should continue working with the first team while pursuing higher coaching qualifications. He pointed to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s UEFA Pro Licence as the level he would like Parker to reach.
The ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker took charge after Adnan Beganovic’s departure late last season. A five-match unbeaten run under the former Bafana Bafana striker helped Galaxy retain their Premiership status, and Sukazi backed him to lead the team into the 2026/27 campaign.
Seven matches into the new season, however, Parker is set to move into an assistant coaching role. His change of position makes him the latest top-flight coach to lose the head coach’s role this season. Sekhukhune United, Marumo Gallants and Richards Bay have parted ways with Cedric Kaze, Phuti Mohafe and Ronnie Gabriel respectively, while Siwelele FC have suspended Lehlohonolo Seema.
Galaxy are now working to bring in a new head coach during the international break. The Rockets’ next league match is away to Orlando Pirates on 18 October.
