Betway Premiership outfit Kruger United have confirmed that Bongani Wati has left the club and is no longer its chairman, effective 23 September 2026.
The announcement follows discussions between Wati and fellow co-owner Basil Khoza over their future at the PSL club. FARPost previously reported that the talks included the possibility of Khoza buying Wati’s 50% stake.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kruger said Wati would have no further involvement in the club’s daily operations or its business, commercial and football affairs. He is also no longer authorised to represent or speak on behalf of the club.
The statement did not say whether Wati’s ownership stake has been sold or whether a buyout has been agreed.

Kruger have appointed Treasure Mathebula as interim chief executive officer. He will oversee daily administration and lead the transition while the club searches for a permanent CEO.
The club sought to reassure players, staff and supporters that the leadership change would not affect its maiden Premiership campaign. It said the technical team and playing squad remain in place and that all contractual and financial obligations would be honoured.
“Our participation in the Betway Premiership continues without interruption,” the statement reads.
Wati was a prominent figure during Kruger’s rise from the ABC Motsepe League to the Premiership, including last season’s Motsepe Foundation Championship triumph. The club thanked him for his service and wished him well.
The Village Boys were established after acquiring Caroline FC’s status in 2023. They won the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League in their first season and reached the national playoff final, earning promotion to the Championship.
Kruger finished fifth in their debut Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign in 2024/25 before securing automatic promotion in their second season.
This season in the top flight, they have played seven games: one win, one draw and five defeats. They currently sit 12th in the league table. The club’s head coach, Abram Mongoya, will look to stabilise the team after the break.
The Mbombela-based side is currently two points ahead of Marumo Gallants, who are at the bottom of the table. They play Chippa United away on October 17, 2026, after the FIFA International break.
