Siwelele’s Mosoetsa decision points to Lehlohonolo Seema exit

Siwelele FC players have been informed that caretaker coach Godfrey Mosoetsa will remain in charge until the end of the season, a development that makes Lehlohonolo Seema’s exit increasingly likely.

FARPost has learned that the players were told of the decision on Tuesday. The move suggests the Bloemfontein club is preparing for an extended spell without Seema.

Mosoetsa, a youth coach at the club, took over first-team duties after Seema and assistant coach Willem Jackson were asked to step aside following a 3-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.

He has since overseen a 3-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns and a 1-1 draw with Golden Arrows. Siwelele remain rooted to the bottom of the Betway Premiership table with three points from seven matches.

The latest development raises fresh questions about Seema and Jackson’s future after chairman Calvin Le John recently insisted that the pair had been suspended pending a performance review, rather than dismissed.

Siwelele’s statement on 7 September confirmed that Seema and Jackson had been relieved of their first-team duties. However, Le John subsequently clarified that the club had not made a final decision on their future.

Speaking to Robert Marawa on 947, the chairman said management wanted to establish whether the coaches could turn the team’s fortunes around.

“The axe has not fallen. We’ve suspended the coaches pending a performance review. As the management of the team, we want to sit down and speak to the coaches and understand what is happening. We need to determine whether they can get us out of this situation or whether we should appoint new coaches,” Le John said.

“So, the axe has not fallen, contrary to popular opinion. I know people have been saying that there is no such thing as a suspension in football, but unfortunately for them, we have indeed suspended them.”

But informing players that Mosoetsa will lead the team for the remainder of the campaign suggests the club’s plans now extend beyond a temporary arrangement during that review.

Seema signed a three-year contract when he took charge last season and is in the second year of that agreement. Any negotiated separation would therefore have to address the remaining period of his deal and the financial terms of his departure.

His uncertain future comes after an extensive off-season rebuild. Siwelele parted ways with more than 23 players and recruited over 10, leaving him to integrate a substantially changed squad while chasing immediate results.
