Magesi FC goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze in action

Although he is yet to hang up his gloves, Magesi FC goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has dropped a major hint about his mega goalkeeping plan, which he hopes will uplift underprivileged kids.

The 36-year-old has spent a great deal of time in South Africa’s PSL, making over 140 appearances for two clubs: Baroka FC and Magesi FC. Both teams played in the Betway Premiership but were relegated, with Magesi FC dropping to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of the 2025/26 season.

And Chipezeze opted to stay at Magesi FC despite interest from Premier League clubs in Zimbabwe. Chipezeze said he wants to build a legacy and repay Magesi FC for helping him grow in his career.

At Magesi, Chipezeze carved a niche and produced fine results, especially in the 2024 Carling Knockout Cup where he helped the club win the prestigious trophy while scooping R600 000 in Man of the Match awards. That changed his life and has made Magesi FC more than a home to him.

And while some of his agemates have opted to return to Zimbabwe, among them Edmore Chirambadare, Washington Arubi, Prince Dube, Gerald Takwara, Khama Billiat, Knowledge Musona, he stayed put in South Africa as he hopes to establish something that will benefit both countries, South Africa and Zimbabwe, in the long run.

‘I WANT TO ESTABLISH A MOVEMENT FOR BUDDING GOALKEEPERS’ – ELVIS CHIPEZEZE

Speaking in an exclusive interview with FARPost, the 36-year-old Warriors goalkeeper said his vision is inspired by his own journey.

“My plan is to establish a movement that would produce top-tier goalkeepers and also help underprivileged young stars in the same way that I was also helped while growing up in Zimbabwe,” Chipezeze told FARPost.

The veteran shot-stopper, who opted to stay at Magesi FC despite their relegation at the end of the 2025/26 season, revealed he has already started laying the groundwork in his home country.

“I am in the process of establishing systems in the major cities of Zimbabwe, that is Harare, Bulawayo and Gweru, where youngsters will enrol and get good exposure to become goalkeepers,” he revealed.

Chipezeze added that he wants the current crop of goalkeepers he is working with at Magesi FC to be a reflection of his project.

“I’m going to sacrifice and ensure that the goalkeepers that I am currently working with at Magesi stand out as the examples of what I want to do,” added Chipezeze.

He stressed that uplifting disadvantaged kids remains his driving force. Chipezeze declared: “My long-time wish is to uplift those coming from underprivileged backgrounds.”

CHIPEZEZE DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STARS

While he is not yet ready to disclose the full blueprint of his initiative, the former Baroka FC keeper said his ambition mirrors what former South African and Kaizer Chiefs stars Itumeleng Khune and Lehlohonolo Majoro are doing.

“I am not yet comfortable revealing major details of my plans, but my plan is to establish a movement in my home country and also in South Africa to promote youngsters, the same way Itumeleng Khune and Lehlohonolo Majoro have done in South Africa,” he explained.

On whether he will venture into full-time goalkeeper coaching at club level, Chipezeze remained coy. He added: “I did not want to say much about venturing into full-time goalkeeper coaching at club level. My desire is the kids and the budding stars.”
