Magesi FC Director of Football Morgan Mammila has made a bold promotion claim, declaring that the Limpopo side possesses the best squad in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as they target an immediate return to the Betway Premiership.
The Limpopo-based club is one of the two clubs relegated from the Betway Premiership last season, alongside Orbit College FC.
Despite keeping most of the players who were with them in the elite league, Magesi have also roped in some experienced campaigners this season.
This includes former Stellenbosch FC defender Vusi Sibiya, former Moroka Swallows striker Naeem Amoojee, and well-travelled versatile player Matome Mabeba, among others.
“We’ve got the best squad in the league. We are one of the top, when it comes to quality and experience,” Mammila told FARPost.
WHY MAGESI FC DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL IS HAPPY WITH THE QUALITY IN THE TEAM
“So, it’s just a matter of being patient and come May [2027], and then we’re sitting there on top and then we’re back in the Betway Premiership.
“That’s the focus, and we’re not changing any focus. As said, we’re killing so many birds at the same time. You can see even the progress of the [Magesi FC] Village.”
“So far so good, I think everything is going according to the plan. The plan was to make sure the team stays on top from the start of the season until December. So that come January, we will get up and maintain the position. We’re on top of the log with 14 points; only one team can overtake us. I think we are heading in the right direction.”
MORGAN MAMMILA BACKS COACH KABELO SIBIYA TO SECURE PROMOTION FOR THE CLUB
Mammila has also hailed the work done by head coach Kabelo Sibiya since his appointment at the beginning of the season. Under Sibiya’s guidance, Magesi have won four and drawn two of their opening six matches this season.
However, Magesi have managed only one win in their first three games this season and drew the other two. But Mammila is not concerned about the inability to collect maximum points at home, saying it is just a matter of time before they capitalise on the home ground advantage.
“Coach Kabelo is doing well. He is doing wonders; he is a top coach. We have too many clean sheets. It’s just a matter of time, man, where I think we’ll win home games; I think we’ll win home games,” he added.
