Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Doctor Khumalo has been appointed vice-chairperson of the SAFA Technical Committee, deputising for Jack Maluleke, who retains the mandate to head the portfolio. The local football associationโ€™s new National Executive Committee [NEC] has finalised its sub-committees, with Khumaloโ€™s appointment headlining the list.

A Bafana Bafana legend, Khumaloโ€™s mandate was ratified at an NEC meeting at the NH Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Sunday. The 1996 AFCON winner will work with Maluleke on technical issues.

Previous work as Chiefs assistant coach, as well as Baroka FC technical director and later caretaker coach, saw Khumalo earning experience in technical matters as he now moves into administration.

The 59-year-old serves in the new NEC headed by Danny Jordaan, who was reelected for a fourth term in September. He defeated AmaZulu FC chairman Sandile Zungu to the biggest job at SAFA House.

โ€œIn our technical committee, we have reappointed Mr Jack Maluleke as the chair and appointed Doctor Khumalo as the vice chairperson of the SAFA Technical Committee,โ€ Jordaan announced as he addressed the media after Sundayโ€™s meeting.ย

โ€œI spoke to him, and he is quite happy to serve in this technical committee of SAFA.โ€

SAFA VICE PRESIDENTS ELECTEDย

Following Jordaan’s continued leadership as SAFA boss, his three deputies were elected at Sundayโ€™s NEC meeting. Linda Zwane and former Mamelodi Sundowns owner Natasha Tsichlas were re-elected as vice-presidents.ย

Former SAFA Western Cape chairman Tankiso Modipa was elected as the third vice-president. He replaces Bennet Bailey.

Jordaan emphasised that Sundayโ€™s election was transparent, and he offered that assurance after the controversy that marred the September presidential elections. Allegations of intimidation and death threats marked the run-up to the vote.

This also saw NEC member Lebogang Riet laying criminal charges against SAFA chief executive Lydia Monyepao for tampering with the organisationโ€™s statutes. However, SAFA communications head Mninawa Ntloko announced on Sunday that Riet has since withdrawn the complaint.ย
