Kaizer Chiefs have agreed personal terms with Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana, with the 27-year-old expected to undergo a medical later this week before finalising his move to Naturena, FARPost has been informed.
FARPost also understands that the two parties have agreed terms, paving the way for Mokwana to join the Soweto giants on a free transfer. The deal remains subject to a successful medical.
Mokwana has been a free agent since September, when he and Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis mutually terminated his contract. His deal had been due to run until June 2027.
The agreement marks a breakthrough in Chiefs’ long-standing pursuit of the former Sekhukhune United attacker, who was on their radar before joining Espérance in August 2024.
The Tunisian club won the race for his signature then, but Chiefs have now moved to secure a player they have admired for more than two years.
WHY KAIZER CHIEFS HAVE MOVED FOR MOKWANA

Mokwana’s anticipated arrival comes as Chiefs seek to strengthen their attacking options following an inconsistent start to the 2026/27 season. Amakhosi have already suffered early exits from the MTN8 and CAF Confederation Cup, while Saturday’s 2-1 Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates added to the pressure on head coach Fernando Da Cruz.
The Frenchman previously identified the need for different attacking profiles to make his team less predictable.
“A striker, new wingers and an offensive midfielder. We have good profiles [already], but we asked for management to get different profiles, so that we can play different football and be less predictable,” Da Cruz said earlier in the season.
Chiefs subsequently recruited Langelihle Phili and Faiz Abrahams from Stellenbosch FC, with Mokwana now poised to add further depth and experience to their attack. The winger offers pace, direct running and versatility across the frontline.
MOKWANA’S EXPERIENCE ABROAD
Mokwana joined Espérance from Sekhukhune United in August 2024 and contributed seven goals and four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions during a campaign in which the Tunisian giants won a domestic double.
He spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Saudi Arabian club Al-Hazem, making 26 appearances, scoring once and providing three assists.
The winger was part of South Africa’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco but missed out on selection for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
After leaving Espérance, he attracted interest from clubs in Libya, Saudi Arabia and Morocco, including Wydad AC. A move to Chiefs would also fulfil a long-held ambition for Mokwana, who previously revealed that he grew up supporting Amakhosi despite his father being an Orlando Pirates supporter.
“When they said Chiefs wanted me, I was happy. Unfortunately, it never happened, but the dream is still there,” he said in 2024.
