Former Pirates goalie Jackson Mabokgwane finds new home

Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane has seemingly found a new club in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Mabokgwane has been without a club after parting ways with Baroka most recently.

FARPost has now been reliably informed that Mabokgwane has joined Black Leopards. The contract is believed to be for until the end of the current season.

The 34-year-old is expected to start training with his new teammates at Saselamani on Monday.

Mabokgwane was not immediately available for comment. But a source within the club has told this publication that both parties were looking forward to the move.

One of the weaknesses of Leopards in the current season has been at the back. They have conceded 16 goals in their opening 12 matches.

The keepers they have within their camp is Gambia International Alagie Jobe, long-serving Rotshidzwa Muleka and Mlungisi Mazibuko.

Mabokgwane left Baroka after playing in 11 matches in the short period he spent at the club.

But the departure of coach Vincent Kobola saw the veteran Keeper also following alongside players such as Nkosinathi Ononogbu, Jerry Msane and Decide Chauke.

Mabokgwane is a well-traveled goalkeeper who has featured for a number of clubs in the PSL.

He began his career at Mamelodi Sundowns in 2010. But after struggling to find game time he went to now-defunct Platinum Stars, where he resurrected his career.

His impressive performances at Stars saw him secure a move to Bidvest Wits before going on to play for clubs such as Mpumalanga Black Aces, Orlando Pirates, Bloemfontein Celtic and Royal AM.

NEW TECHNICAL STAFF MEMBER

Meanwhile, Leopards have also appointed Blessing Mtetwa as the team’s conditioning coach.

His day-to-day duties include designing training programmes, providing instructions on exercises and evaluation of players and teaching fitness skills.

He comes with the recommendation of senior coach Rodwell Dhlakama whom he has worked with in Zimbabwe.
