Yakhouba Gnagna Barry’s deal called off, AmaZulu FC welcome potential replacement

Yakhouba Gnagna Barry’s move to AmaZulu FC from Horoya AC has collapsed as Usuthu are set to welcome a potential replacement, FARPost can exclusively reveal.

Two weeks ago, the club’s president Sandile Zungu confirmed to this website that they had “managed to sign” Gnagna Barry who had been their long-time target.

The Guinea international was going to join the KZN side as the 10th signing. However, the deal has been called off after he underwent a medical which revealed issues with his knee.

According to Zungu, the offer was on condition that the player passes the medical.

Moreover, AmaZulu were prepared to keep him for an extended period and administer treatment for the knee. It would mean assessing him longer, a proposal Horoya turned down. Usuthu then decided to withdraw the offer.

“The offer was always on condition that he passes the medical. So, it was withdrawn,” Zungu told FARPost.

Meanwhile, Usuthu have moved fast to continue hunting down the reinforcement for the striking department.

On Tuesday, they will welcome the Kenyan and Zesco United striker Vincent Oburu for the assessment.

USUTHU WELCOME VINCENT OBURU FOR ASSESSMENT

“Vincent Oburu, a Kenyan forward who plays for Zesco, is coming to AmaZulu. If we assess and like him, we’ll sign him,” added Zungu.

The 25-year-old forward also played for AFC Leopards and Wazito FC in his home country before he was exported to Zambia. According to Transfermarkt, he has scored one goal for the national team in four caps he has collected.

Usuthu have been struggling somewhat in front of goal this season as they have only netted once in five DStv Premiership games. Augustine Kwem scored in their previous match when they picked their first win this season against TS Galaxy [1-0] last Wednesday.

AmaZulu are currently 14th on the league standings after collecting six points in five games.
