Arrows keen on keeping an exciting Sundowns loanee

Golden Arrows have registered their intentions of retaining the services of an exciting Mamelodi Sundowns loanee.

Abafana Bes’thende have had an indifferent 2022/23 DStv Premiership season but are well on course to finish the season in the top eight.

With one game remaining before the season ends, Golden Arrows are eighth on the PSL standings with 37 points.

A win against Chippa United on Saturday is enough to ensure a top-eight finish. And as the season ends, the Durban-based club is set to part ways with Zimbabwe international Divine Lunga.

The 27-year-old is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. His loan spell is set to lapse on June 30. He joined Golden Arrows at the start of the season and has only missed two matches.

This means he played 27 out of league 29 matches plus two matches in other competitions.

As it stands Lunga has one goal and three assists to his name, an indication that has been a key part of Golden Arrows’ sojourn this season.

In fact, Golden Arrows are considering having the former Chicken Inn star, Lunga on permanent terms.

“We have not spoken to Mamelodi Sundowns yet. But the club and coaches want him to stay,” Golden Arrows spokesperson Mqo Thusi told FARPost.

“His loan ends when the season ends but as a club, we want him. We are awaiting discussions with the club [Mamelodi Sundowns].

“We want him to stay longer because he has done so well since coming back. He has been one of the standout performers at the team.

“But we can’t speak on behalf of the Mamelodi Sundowns because they obviously have their plans with him.”

The talented left-back rejoined Abafana Bes’thende at the start of the current season.

Mamelodi Sundowns agreed on loaning the player who had failed to break into Tshwane giants’ regular line-up.

This happened despite that he had an illustrious 2021/22 season with Golden Arrows.

And having been on song this season, it will also not be surprising if Arrows are turned down by Mamelodi Sundowns.
