Kaizer Chiefs have made a massive statement of intent ahead of the 2026/27 campaign by securing the signature of outgoing Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane.

FARPost has been reliably informed by highly placed sources close to the developments that the highly-rated centre-back has penned a three-year deal with the Glamour Boys. Moloisane moves to Naturena as a free agent after declining a contract renewal in the Western Cape.

Amakhosi have been long-term admirers of the 27-year-old, tracking his progress for a considerable period. With his contract set to officially expire on June 30, 2026, the Chiefs hierarchy moved swiftly behind the scenes to secure the player’s signature.

CHIEFS LOCK DOWN THABO MOLOISANE AS STELLENBOSCH FC EXIT CONFIRMED

Stellenbosch officially confirmed Moloisane’s departure on Wednesday, revealing that the former Maritzburg United man had expressed his desire to seek a new challenge after three highly successful seasons in the Cape Winelands. “Moloisane has informed Stellenbosch FC of his intention to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract,” Stellies confirmed in a club statement, expressing gratitude for his leadership and exceptional service.

During his spell under Steve Barker, Moloisane morphed into one of the most reliable and commanding defensive forces in the Betway Premiership. He racked up 115 appearances across all competitions for the Maroons, famously captaining the side following Deano van Rooyen’s high-profile switch to Orlando Pirates.

His rock-solid performances helped guide Stellenbosch to a historic 2023 Carling Knockout Cup triumph, back-to-back MTN8 finals, and consecutive CAF Confederation Cup qualifications. His stellar displays in the 2024/25 season also earned him a nomination for the PSL Defender of the Season award.

The defender’s domestic consistency caught the sharp eye of Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos. He has since earned five international caps.

BATTLE FOR PLACES LOOMS IN NATURENA BACKLINE

Despite struggling with minor injuries and a brief suspension during the gruelling 2025/26 campaign, Moloisane’s primary attribute remains his remarkable durability. He featured 33 times in all competitions this past season, including 21 league outings, proving his ability to withstand the demanding nature of top-tier football.

His arrival in Johannesburg is bound to stir up a fascinating tactical selection headache for the Amakhosi technical team. Moloisane enters a heavily congested defensive department and will have to fight tooth and nail for a starting berth. He will go head-to-head against the established likes of: Given Msimango, Inácio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, Zitha Kwinika and Aden McCarthy.
