Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Kgaogelo Sekgota is closing in on a move to Egyptian Premier League side Petrojet SC. FARPost understands Petrojet have been impressed by the 29-year-old following his arrival in Egypt after leaving Siwelele FC, with the winger now in line to secure a deal that would offer him a fresh opportunity abroad.
A move to Petrojet would represent an ideal fresh start for the talented winger, who left Siwelele after a brief spell and is now looking to write the next chapter of his career.
Interestingly, Petrojet are no strangers to South African talent. The club had Stellenbosch FC defender Qobolwakhe Sibande on their books last season before he recently returned to South Africa on a season-long loan with Stellies.
Once regarded as one of South Africa’s most exciting wide players, Sekgota is now aiming to fulfil the promise that made him one of the country’s brightest attacking prospects. Having worked through the personal challenges that temporarily interrupted his progress, the skilful winger now has the chance to focus fully on football again and showcase his abilities on a new stage.
WHAT A MOVE TO EGYPT WOULD DO FOR SEKGOTA
A move to Egypt would offer him the perfect environment to rebuild his confidence, play regular top-flight football and remind many of the qualities that earned him admiration during the early years of his career.
Sekgota joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2021 and quickly became a fan favourite with his explosive pace, fearless dribbling and willingness to take on defenders. He made 48 appearances across all competitions before leaving Naturena in 2023 to join
Stellenbosch FC, where he was part of the squad that lifted the Carling Knockout Cup. Before returning to South Africa, the winger also enjoyed a spell in Portugal with Vitória Setúbal, making his Primeira Liga debut against FC Porto.
Across his senior career, which has seen him feature for Moroka Swallows and Bidvest Wits, Sekgota has made close to 200 appearances. Should Petrojet complete the deal, the move could provide the platform for the gifted winger to rediscover his best form and finally realise the immense potential that has always been evident throughout his career.
