TS Galaxy head coach Bernard Parker has explained why it is difficult to set clear targets for his side ahead of the new campaign, pointing directly to mass player movements at the club.
After replacing Adnan Beganovic on an interim basis last season, Parker has now been thrust into the head coach role in a substantive appointment. That saw the former Kaizer Chiefs striker overseeing TS Galaxy’s transfer business to strengthen his squad for the 2026/27 season.
In what looks like a fresh start for the club, fourteen players were signed by the Rockets, including Siphesihle Tati, who came in from Lerumo Lions FC, Lennol Mathebula and Zuko Gxabusa [both Gomora United], Sifiso Ngobeni [Cape Town City FC], Katekane Mhlongo, Edson Khumalo [both Marumo Gallants] and Nhlakanipho Ngwenya [Durban City FC]. Former Polokwane City FC striker Thabelo Tshikweta, Azola Jakalashe [Cape Town Spurs FC], Mpho Maoke [Gomora United], Simthandile Sishi and [Stellenbosch FC] were also roped in.
This was after the club lost the likes of Siphesihle Maduna, Solomon Letsoenyo, Nhlanhla Mgaga, Mory Keita, and Mzwandile Dlamini. A slow start to the Betway Premiership season has been experienced by TS Galaxy, who first drew 2-2 with Siwelele FC before losing 3-2 to Mamelodi Sundowns.
THE CONUNDRUM BERNARD PARKER FACES AT TS GALAXY
Over the years, TS Galaxy have established themselves as a selling club, losing star players like Given Msimango, Bathusi Aubaas, Kamohelo Sebelebele, Lebone Seema, Khulumani Ndamane, Samkelo Kabini, Phuso Dithejane as well as goalkeepers Melusi Buthelezi and Fiacre Ntwari.
The Rockets finished the Betway Premiership campaign outside the top eight in 12th position last season, and Parker reveals why he finds it hard to spell out a clear target.
“With a team like TS Galaxy, it’s not easy to predict because we lose so many players, and we also have to bring in so many players. Every year is a new start, refreshing players,” Parker recently told the media.
“So, TS Galaxy, the highest they have finished was sixth, if I can remember. It is for us to make sure that if we can finish higher than sixth, that’s possible.
“But I believe in the club, in the players, that it can be achieved. And also to compete, try to go as far as we went in the Nedbank Cup in terms of getting into the final of the Carling Knockout, the Nedbank and try to get some silverware. But all in all, a team like TS Galaxy is a team that produces and competes at the same time.
“So, it is not easy to predict, but all I can say is we will take one game at a time, and we will see at the end of the season where we can finish best.”
