Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing, Langelihle Phili, has shed light on how he intends to remain grounded and keep improving after opening his goal-scoring account for Amakhosi against Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend.
The 21-year-old winger completed a permanent transfer to the Soweto giants from Stellenbosch FC earlier this month and has swiftly made his mark at his new club. Phili has featured in three matches for Chiefs since his arrival.
Last week, he delivered a performance that earned him the Betway Premiership Man of the Match award in Chiefs colours against Sekhukhune United, whom they beat 2-0 at FNB Stadium.
The South African youth international carried that momentum into Saturday’s high-stakes league fixture against Masandawana at the Calabash, scoring his first goal for the side now led by Fernando da Cruz. The encounter ended in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Phili reflected on the magnitude of opening his account against the 2025/26 CAF Champions League winners.
“Obviously, being at such a great football institution as Kaizer Chiefs, you want to play in the big games,” said Phili. “So being able to play and score against Mamelodi Sundowns, the African champions, was huge for me, as could be seen from my celebration.”
Despite his impressive start to life at Chiefs, the young attacker remains focused on his long-term development rather than getting carried away by early success.
“Still, my overriding aim is to help the team in any way possible,” he emphasised. “In order to maintain my form consistently, I must just keep listening to the coach and the technical team, learning from my teammates, and just keep trying hard every day to become a better version of myself.”
Chiefs sit second in the Betway Premiership on seven points, level with leaders Orlando Pirates. The two giants are separated only by goal difference after three league matches so far.
