Kaizer Chiefs extended coach Lehlohonolo Seema’s winless start to the new 2026/27 season after edging Siwelele FC 3-2 in a Betway Premiership clash at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Sunday night.
Siwelele came into the fixture desperate for maximum points to turn around their campaign. But a resolute Amakhosi side held firm on home soil to ensure they secured all three points, thanks to goals by Mfundo Vilakazi [30th minute], Wandile Duba [65th minute], and Faiz Abrahams [77th minute]. Aphiwe Baliti [68th minute] and Michael N’Guessan [stoppage time goal with his first touch] scored the consolation goals for Siwelele.
The result leaves Seema still searching for his first victory of the 2026/27 campaign. After five league outings, Siwelele have picked up just two points from a possible 15, leaving them languishing in 14th place on the Betway Premiership table, just a single point above bottom-placed Kruger United.
With three defeats and two draws in their opening five fixtures, pressure is mounting on Seema to turn things around swiftly with his job on the line.
FAIZ ABRAHAMS OPENS HIS KAIZER CHIEFS ACCOUNT
Chiefs’ new signing, Faiz Abrahams, opened his account for the Soweto giants in just his second appearance for the club, having made his debut against Richards Bay FC on Wednesday, 26 August.
He came off the bench to replace Siphesihle Ndlovu in the 69th minute. The attacker made an immediate impact, finding the back of the net. Abrahams joined the Glamour Boys on a season-long loan from Stellenbosch FC, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

Meanwhile, Chiefs maintain their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 season in their opening five league matches.
Head coach Fernando da Cruz made two adjustments to the starting line-up that faced the Natal Rich Boyz in Durban. Dillan Solomons came in to replace the injured Thabiso Monyane, while Wandile Duba earned a start in place of Luke Baartman, who started the match on the bench.
The victory also marked a successful return to Dobsonville Stadium for the Glamour Boys. It was Chiefs’ first league appearance at the Soweto venue since November 2023, when they secured a 1-0 away victory over the now-defunct Moroka Swallows.
Their last overall outing at the ground came last season, when they defeated Democratic Republic of Congo outfit AS Simba 3-1 in a CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round second-leg match.
Currently, Chiefs sit third on the Betway Premiership table, boasting 11 points from five matches.
