Former Marumo Gallants head coach Phuti Mohafe has broken his silence following his departure from the Betway Premiership outfit, insisting the club’s hierarchy showed a complete lack of patience.
Mohafe was relieved of his duties just five matches into the 2026/27 campaign after failing to secure a victory. The CAF A license holder recorded two draws and three defeats during his brief stint at the helm.
The 52-year-old had joined Gallants with high expectations following a stellar spell at Polokwane City FC, where he consistently guided Rise and Shine to top-eight finishes—including last season—while transforming them into a competitive outfit.
Reflecting on his exit, Mohafe expressed frustration over the lack of time and support provided to build a competitive team.
“There was no patience, my man. You cannot say five matches is patience; it’s not,” a candid Mohafe told FARPost.

The former Rise and Shine tactician also highlighted transfer window shortcomings as a key factor behind the team’s poor start, revealing that several of his primary targets were not brought in.
“I am expected to deliver, but the support was minimal. There are certain things that I was looking for that I didn’t get,” he added.
“I don’t want to go into deep details about those things. What I can talk about is what is in front of everyone’s eyes, and that is the squad. I looked for specific players, but in certain key positions, I didn’t get what I asked for.”
Following Mohafe’s departure, Trevor Mathiane briefly stepped in on an interim basis during the 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu FC in a league tie at Princess Magogo Stadium this past Saturday.
Despite reports linking Bulgarian manager Dimitar Pantev with the vacancy, the club has since officially appointed former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo as their new head coach.
