Onismor Bhasera has opened up about his decision to return home to Zimbabwe after leaving Siwelele FC, following a similar path to former Warriors captain Willard Katsande, to partner South African coach Thabo Senong at FC Platinum.
Bhasera, who joined Thabo Senong’s FC Platinum technical team as assistant coach in September, said he did not hesitate when the team knocked on his door.
Siwelele let the former Zimbabwe international go at the end of the 2025/26 campaign. He had joined Siwelele FC after ending his illustrious playing career with SuperSport United.
He immediately transitioned into coaching, having already begun working towards attaining CAF coaching badges before ending his playing career. His exit from Siwelele FC was part of a revamp that has also seen Lehlohonolo Seema fall by the wayside.
Speaking for the first time since making the move to Zimbabwe, the former Kaizer Chiefs left-back said: “I didn’t have to think twice to join such a big brand.”
His homecoming mirrors that of his former Kaizer Chiefs star Willard Katsande, who also returned to take up a coaching role in Zimbabwe after retiring.
“It feels great. FC Platinum, its record speaks for itself. Such a big team. They’ve been doing well; it’s one of the teams that has made history in the country,” Bhasera added.
“So it was not a difficult decision to make. It was well-oriented and straightforward to come and join. It’s a very good opportunity, and I want to thank them for the trust and the opportunity.”

‘I AM IN SAFE HANDS UNDER THABO SENONG’ – ONISMOR BHASERA
Bhasera is Reneilwe Letsholonyane‘s direct replacement at the club. Letsholonyane left FC Platinum after a brief stint to join Botswana’s Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
“For me, coming here is not just about adding numbers. I’m looking to bring a lot of experience from my playing career and the short time I’ve been coaching,” he declared.
“I want to add something to the players, show them one or two things to build this brand and take it back to where it was – winning cups and winning the championship again.
“Let’s watch the space. I don’t want to say too much. A lot of work is being done here at the training ground, and people will see a bit of it in the matches. With coach Thabo Senong, we know how experienced he is.
“I’m in good hands; everyone has welcomed me very well here. They are good lads at the club, and they are raring to go. It’s going to be a very good journey. And I’m looking forward to contributing to the club in any way I can.”
